The Catholic community in Ibanda District is mourning the sudden loss of Rev. Fr. Wycliff Byamugisha, who tragically passed away in a road accident on Sunday.
The fatal accident took place along the Mbarara-Ibanda highway, near Nyahoora Trading Centre, while Fr. Byamugisha was on his way to conduct mass. Fr. Byamugisha was a dedicated priest serving at Nyabukikye Center Catholic Church, where he was well-loved for his strong faith and commitment to his congregation.
His untimely death has left a significant void in the hearts of those who knew him.
Father Charles Mutabaruka, the communications head for the Mbarara Catholic Archdiocese, expressed deep sorrow at the loss.
“It is truly heartbreaking that we have lost Father Byamugisha. We pray for strength during this difficult time,” he said, noting the great impact this tragedy has had on the diocese and the entire Catholic community.
Rwizi Region Police spokesperson Samson Kasasira confirmed the accident and said that investigations are ongoing to find out the cause. “As police, we have launched investigations to understand what led to this tragic event,” he told the Nile Post.
Fr. Byamugisha’s body was taken to Ruhoko Health Center IV for a postmortem examination, as authorities continue to gather details about the crash.
His passing has left a deep sense of grief among the people he served with dedication. Fr. Byamugisha’s legacy of faith and service will continue to be remembered by those whose lives he touched.
